WHAT IS A WORKCAMP?
A volunteer on an APARE work-camp is personally involved in a project of local interest and shares the daily life of the group through multi-cultural exchange and an experience of authentic discovery.
A voluntary discovery
Volunteer work-camps aim to protect and help develop the natural and cultural resources of a region. They encourage volunteers of all nationalities to work on a group project benefitting the environment and/or heritage protection.
Over a period of two or three weeks, volunteers live together and participate in a work programme that will enable them to receive basic training from professionals in stonework, restoration and consolidation of Provençal and Mediterranean constructions.

Discovering Provence and the Mediterranean
Above all else, the spirit of the APARE work-camps consists in living out a unique experience off the beaten track. The camps encourage the discovery of the rich heritage of Provence and the Mediterranean, passing through some exceptional areas such as the Mont Ventoux, the Luberon, the ‘dentelles de Montmirail’, the Alpilles, the Verdon river gorges and Haute Provence.
Lastly, overseas workcamps offer an opening onto European countries or the Mediterranean region as a whole: from Morocco to Tunisia, passing by Algeria, volunteers are submerged in the heart of southern cultures or European cultures.
A time to work, a time to play
The timetable of a work camp takes into account the time given to on-site work but also time for leisure and relaxation, notably at the end of the afternoon and at weekends. Free time is organised for volunteers, with various sporting, cultural or artistic activities on offer.
Volunteer work camps are indeed holidays, but they are useful holidays, true human and cultural adventures.
